September 27, 2003: Today Westhill made a return trip to the Tully Invitational.  Tully's course (a favorite of many Westhill athletes) is a flat and fast course that's great for spectators as well as runners.  Today, however, we had some very strong winds in several sections of the course that really slowed everyone's times.  Despite this, Westhill's Varsity and Junior Varisty teams came home with second place plaques from their respective comeptitve races.  The Varsity team ran in the Varsity A/B race (so we were competing with several schools much larger than ours), and placed second, getting beat only by a strong team from Central Square (43-65).  In fact, the top 6 finishers in our race consisted of 3 Westhill kids and 3 C. Sqaure kids.  In the merged results with the C/D race, Westhill finished 3rd overall behind C. Sqaure and Tully.  Kevin Blaich had another outstanding meet, finishing 2nd behind C Sqaure's Ben Adams.  Our JV team repeated last year's second-place finish, scoring behind Tully (43-76).  This was a good showing considering there was only one JV race for all four classes.  Freshman Will Pierce ran a good race and finished 3rd....there was a close battle for the second position between about 10 guys near the finish, and Will outkicked most of them. 

Also, congrats to Coach Wheeless for a good race today.  He ran in the open 5K and won with a time of 17:21.9 (which would have finished just ahead of Matt and right after Tim had he run that in the Varsity race).
