October 11, 2003: Today Westhill traveled to New York City to participate in the Manhattan College Invitational, the largest high-school Cross Country race in the country.  A total of 9,688 runners from 14 states and Canada lined up to compete in the Invitational's 36 races.  Unlike last year, the weather was really nice, and many people enjoyed running the best races of their season.

In the
Freshmen B race, Westhill made school history by winning the team title with 73 points!  This is the first time a Westhill team has brought home any type of hardware from the meet, and it was a 1st-place trophy! (See the picture below - it's huge!)  Freshman sensation Greg Pallotta ran an aggressive race and finished 2nd in 8:53.2 for the 1.5-mile course.  Following him were Will Pierce in 8th, Kevin Centore in 18th, and a tight finish by Pat Hartnett and Brendan Smith (22 and 23, respectively).  The team outscored Middletown South by 10 points, despite them putting 5 guys in front of our 3rd...the top finishes by Greg and Will and then the close depth of our next 3 earned them their victory.  Great job guys!

The
Junior Varsity race saw sophomore Nate Fredrizzi make a big move and improve his spot on the team, leading Pat Lane, ZachRudy, Zach Laris, and Mike Bufano to the finish line.

In the
Varsity D race, some Westhill runners had great races.  Tim Hartnett finished 19th overall in one of the most competitive races of the day with a fast 13:44.  David Riccardi had a big improvement since last week and came in 55th.  Also, Matt Krawczyk and Colin Haigney raced for the Varsity team and did well.
