| October 16, 2003: After being cancelled yesterday for inclimate weather (not that there's such thing in Cross Country), Westhill ran in the B1/B2 Championship Meet at Phoenix today. This meet matches up the teams from both sides of the B division: the teams we run against with B1 schools (Chittenango, Phoenix, Jamesville-Dewitt, Mexico, and Homer), and the B2 division (Skaneateles, Marcellus, Jordan-Ebridge, CBA, Cazenovia, Solvay, and Bishop Ludden). The meet is run similar to a dual meet, with one race for all runners (regardless of Varsity or JV status). A total of 166 runners fielded the race today, and there were some good races from Westhill. Chittenango star Ozzie Myers won the race - he went out very quick (opening 1000m about 3:04) and led from start to finish. Following him were Steve Corsello (Skan) and Westhill's Tim Hartnett. The next runners from Westhill were: Matt Zych, Greg Pallotta, David Riccardi, and Mark Leonard. Mike Savastano ran a much-improved race in 22:34. In the team scores, Westhill once again made school history by winning the meet for the first time ever!. Westhill finished with 102 points to outscore Chittenango (110) in the results - Chittenango has been improving dramatically over the season and should be congratulated. Congrats to the whole time for a great day - we finished the season 6-0 and now have won the Crossover Champs - great job! |
