| September 20, 2003: Let's practice counting our odd numbers: 1,3,5,7,9. Now why does that seem familiar? Maybe it's because that's how Westhill's Varisty team placed at the Auburn Invitational today, winning the Class B race with only 25 points!!! With another oustanding team effort, Westhill outscored Jamesville-Dewitt and Newark (63, 74) to win the invitational. Kevin Blaich won the meet with a great time of 16:50 for the hilly 5K course. Kevin hung in 2nd place for most of the race, before making a big move with about 800 meters to go, and finished strongly to win by 22 seconds. Tim Hartnett (3), Matt Zych (5), David Riccardi (7) and Greg Pallotta (9) rounded out our 1st place team. Our JV team also ran well...they competed in the only JV race at the meet (a mix of A, B, C, and D schools) and finished 7th out of 17 teams (and 5 of the 6 teams that beat them were A schools). As usualy, we had a close finish of freshmen as the top 5 scorers for our team. In addition, freshman Peter Metz made a big improvement with racing today and ran well. Both our Varsity and JV teams have been running well and are ready for a good meet on Saturday and Tully. Congrats again to the whole team - we're 2 for 2 on winning invitationals. |
